Walter and Elizabeth Smith purchased Fleetwing Oil in 1956 establishing the company in Lakeland which began an extensive relationship with major petroleum brands. Over the years, Fleetwing expanded their line of products adding several of the world’s most renowned fuel and finished lubricant manufactures such as Kendall, Phillips 66, Chevron, Calumet, Marathon, Prestone and more. In 2013, Fleetwing made history delivering the first bulk tankwagon of diesel exhaust fluid in
the state of Florida.
Today, Fleetwing is a multi-million-dollar industry employing over 75 and distributing petroleum products to the citrus, phosphate and road construction industries — as well as fleet owners, excavators, and automotive dealers and installers throughout the State of Florida. According to Fleetwing President and Managing Partner Andy Wike, Fleetwing underwent a major optimization in 2016. “Fleetwing was lagging behind in technology and automation tools that were needed to remain competitive. We were positioned for a growth spurt and didn’t want to sacrifice customer service, so implementing strategies that enhanced efficiencies
without major capital expenditures was crucial for our continued success” Wike said. “In a commodities business such as fuel and oil, the company that can provide the best service to clients efficiently means our customers receive the most competitive offering available,” said Wike. “Earlier this year, we implemented a best in class logistics system including handheld devices in our trucks and automated tank monitors so that we and our customers have better visibility into inventory, delivery, load planning, forecasting, GPS location as well as electronic billing and payment options.” Wike explained that this was just one process. Others included
CRM, a new customer service help desk and a state of the art ERP system to automate invoicing and bills of lading as well as payables, inventory management and other business functions. With a rich history dating back over 60 years, Fleetwing is pleased to be part of the local community and sponsor several Polk County initiatives as well as national organizations. Fleetwing is proud to be a major sponsor of Mansfield Golf Classic which raises money to fight Muscular Dystrophy, ALS and other muscle debilitating diseases.
